2008 Rotarian of the Year

On May 27, the Cleveland Rotary Club honored one of our own with the “Rotarian of the Year” award.

Max Carroll has been a member of the Cleveland Rotary Club since 1982. During his years of service, Max has sponsored more members into the Cleveland Rotary Club than any other member. His efforts have kept the club’s membership growing to the point where the percentage of per capita growth is one of the highest and steadiest in District 6780.

Max’s Rotary membership is just part of the contribution he has given to this community. Max has over 50 years of experience in the real estate field, most notably as owner and founder of Carroll and Greene Real Estate and Auction. He is a founding board member of First Citizens Bank, and now serves on the advisory board of BB&T. He is a former City Commissioner of Finance and past president and founding member of the Cleveland Association of Realtors. He is on the Economic Development Council of the Chamber of Commerce, member of the Board of Directors for the Church of God Theological Seminary and Max is a member of the North Cleveland Church of God.

Max’s real passion, however, is for the education of the children of Cleveland and Bradley County. He is a life-long native of Cleveland and product of local schools, including Blythe Avenue and Bradley Central High School. This passion translated to 25 years of effective leadership as a member of the Cleveland City School Board where the board voted in 2008 to name the future science wing at Cleveland High in his honor. In Rotary Max has been a board member, founding member of the Cleveland Rotary Foundation and a member of the Paul Harris Society. Max’s greatest accomplishment in life has been marriage for more than 50 years to his sweetheart, Patsy. Max and Patsy have two sons, John, and their oldest, Rotarian David Carroll.

Congratulations, Max, on an honor well deserved.
